Tree transplanting is made very quick and cost effective with the use of our mobile Treespade Machine. It can instantly add value and beauty to your landscaping or commercial project.
The Treespade is a clever piece of engineering and is recognised worldwide. We can uplift trees from the ground and transplant to a new location. There is no mess and virtually no disturbance to the tree.
Usually trees can be transplanted very successfully using our Treespade. The biggest hindrance is access. Our Treespade truck is approx 2.5m wide by 6m long and 7 tonne weight. We need good wide flat access to where the tree is and where it is going. The tree needs to be at least 1.5m away from any immovable structure (e.g. a fence, garage, house etc) - so we can get our Treespade around it. We also prefer firm ground, so we usually carry out the tree transplant operation after a couple of dry days. If the ground is not flat it complicates things (getting the tree aligned straight in the ground at the new site, and the added possibility of our Treespade truck getting stuck).
Using a Treespade is the safest method to transplant trees - as it takes most of the rootball with little disturbance. Our Treespade digs the tree and its rootball out in a cone shape. To better seat the tree in it's new location it is always best to have our Treespade dig the receiving hole first. When we transplant trees we dig the receiving hole with the Treespade and place the dirtplug on the ground near the last tree to be moved (for the first dirtplug) or in the last-moved tree hole. We dig out the tree with the Treespade, move the tree to its new location, plant the tree, pack down the edges, and fertilise the tree. We fill the last tree hole with the first dirtplug (often manually as the dirtplug usually breaks apart when placed on the ground).
If required for support & stability (e.g. tree-height, soil type, high winds), we can install waratahs and ratchet tie-downs or steel-wire cables to support the tree. The cone shape of the rootball does not often necessitate tree support.
Our Treespade can transplant trees up to approx 150-200mm diameter (at the base of the trunk). If the tree is bigger than this then, apart from being able to lift the weight of the tree, the rootball size would be too small for good survivability of the tree. It may still be feasible with the Treespade if it is a soft wood (e.g. Palms), otherwise we use a digger to dig a trench around the tree, pull through the roots, frame the rootball (with chains, boards, straps and a large steel frame), then the tree is lifted, placed lying down on the truck bed and branches pulled in and covered for travel on the road, then the tree is transported and planted at the receiving site (where our digger has prepared a receiving hole) using a HIAB (or crane).
